St Anne's Hall, Holy Family Club

It was that time of the year again in Langley when our senior citizens boogied the night away in Holy Family’s social club.

The annual Dinner and Dance for our mature members was organised by the club’s social activities committee.
This conscientious group has been staging the annual event for many years and subsidising most of the running costs by hosting bingo evenings and other events.

I think that all of us owe them a tremendous vote of thanks for their hard, unceasing work in producing this yearly event.

I qualified to attend last year and this is my second invitation to this 4 hour gastronomic energy marathon. You’d have to be our age to attend this – the young ones couldn’t stand the pace.

An incredibly mouth watering four course meal was served with the usual impeccable style we associate with Dave Greenwood’s catering group. Dave certainly ticks all the right boxes.
It’s Hot. It’s Tasty. There’s plenty of it. And it’s served fast.

Afterwards we sat back to allow our meal to ‘go down’ – probably about 10 minutes! -before the music started.
Delta Country is a two-man band, with voices and a sound fit for Nashville.
While they’re still in Berkshire come and see them.

They perform regularly at our Sunday night dances, so keep an eye for them on our monthly band listings on the club notice board or via the club’s webpage.

I eventually gasped my way around the dance floor for the last two verses of a very slow waltz before panting my way back to my seat.

As I sat watching my healthier colleagues bopping their way around the dance floor I multiplied the number of bodies by average age and reached the staggering conclusion that there was 14,000 years of life in St Anne’s Hall that night.

Incredible, and all due to the stamina, determination and a survival spirit ingrained into our silver seniors that will never, ever be matched again.

It’s great to be one of them.
