HOLY WEEK at Holy Family : 2010

 (This may be a slow download for non-broadband viewers)

We enter into a week made "holy" forever by the self surrendering love of Jesus - for us all.
All week, we remember how he loved us.  Whatever we do, no matter how busy or "distracted" we might be, we can let the power of this week be in the background of our daily reflections.
He entered into our life - with its profound joys and its punishing evils - that we might never experience those struggles alone.  So no matter what we experience this week, we can let it become a "holy" week, letting it all be touched by the graces of this week.
From the humble, yet triumphant, entry into Jerusalem, to our standing together at the foot of his cross, this can be a week which helps us bring all of the elements of our lives, all our experiences of sin and death, into the font of his redeeming, liberating death resurrection.

After blessing the palms on Palm Sunday, Father Kevin invited everyone to come forward to receive their palm.

Almighty and ever living God,  in your tender love for humanity
you sent Jesus to take our nature upon him,  and to suffer death upon the cross,
giving us an example of great humility:
Mercifully grant that we too may walk in the way of the cross, and share in the resurrection;
through the one who is our Saviour and Redeemer  and who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

O my God, my Redeemer, behold me here at Thy feet. From the bottom of my heart I am sorry for all my sins, because by them I have offended Thee, Who art infinitely good. I will die rather than offend thee again.

The Evening Mass of Maundy Thursday, the celebration of the Lord’s Passion on Good Friday and the Easter Vigil are all one
act of worship.

So we gathered on Maundy Thursday.
Oils blessed in the Cathedral
that morning were brought
forward, the Scriptures read
and feet were washed.

The feet-washing ceremony symbolizes humility and commemorates Jesus' last supper with his 12 apostles on the evening before his crucifixion.
The consecrated Host in the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, is carried in solemn procession to the Altar of Repose

Holy God,
you give us this meal of bread and wine in which we celebrate your great compassion;
grant that we may work with you to fulfil our prayers, and to love and serve others as Christ has loved us;
this we ask through Jesus Christ our Redeemer,  who is alive with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Daffodils were given to each child to place at the base of the cross as they left  church.
Everybody was invited to take home a hot cross bun.

Langley Churches: Good Friday Walk Of Witness
  The Walk began at Christ the Worker Church, Parlaunt Road and weaved it's way through Langley to Holy Family Church, stopping several times for Hymns and Prayers.

The Walk ended with a hymn and closing prayers and the walkers were treated to a warm cup of tea and a hot cross bun in our narthex, organised by our UCM.

Through all ages of eternity. Amen
