Father Kevin

A simple note in the parish log book of 1955 reads:
"In August 1955 the Bishop appointed Canon Wainwright to St. Bernard's Convent and Fr Crawfurd moved into 137 Trelawney Avenue as a tenant of the LCC.

The first Mass was offered (in the house) on August 29th and the Blessed Sacrament began to be reserved there." And so began the story of Holy Family parish on the eastern side of Slough.

Fifty years later we are celebrating this milestone.

137,Trelawney Ave.
- today

We had a formal launch in January, and in the followings months there will be an international evening to reflect the many nationalities that make up the community, a jubilee fete, a project to help a young community in Africa and a great jubilee Mass on 18th. September.

At the Jubilee launch weekend Masses a representative from every family in the parish
was invited to come forward and receive two jubilee gifts.

One of the items was a colourful fridge magnet. This attractive item lists the major dates in our Jubilee Year.
They also received a lovely red tie-closed  purse containing a small bottle of holy water, some chalk and a prayer card. They will use these items to bless their homes.

"We're beginning with the blessing of homes," said Father Kevin.

Chalking The Door At The Epiphany

"There's an ancient tradition of giving people holy water and chalk to mark their doors with the year and the names of the three Magi as a blessing on their homes for the coming year.
We mark the main door of our home with the initials of the Magi and the numerals of the new year, connected with crosses."

From Langley to Africa - with Love

As part of our on-going 50th. Jubilee Celebrations, and by way of preparation for Easter, we organised a Lenten Project in association with the Bernardine Sisters, who are in the process of building a new monastery in Burkina Faso, Africa.
At the time of writing, there are already six Sisters in Burkina Faso, overseeing the work that is in progress, with a very much 'hands-on' approach. The buildings for the monastery are already taking shape.

"The parish will reflect on its sacramental life, rejoicing in the past and planning for the future."

Blessing of Graves  :  Slough Cemetery : Sunday, 10th April, 05

On Sunday, 10th April a large crowd gathered at Slough Cemetery to have their family and friend’s graves blessed.  Holy Family also arranged for Fr. Crawfurd’s headstone in St. Mary’s cemetery to be straightened and the letters re-gilded. When this was completed (left) the grave was re-blessed in October, 2005.
