making a difference

Dear Readers,
I am sending you this little prayer that was given to us by a very special lady named Judith Beare.
Sometimes when I am struggling to understand why God has given us a "special child" this little prayer helps.
It would be nice to think someone in a similar situation may draw strength from reading this.
Regards, Sean Ballantyne.

HEAVENS  VERY SPECIAL CHILD
A meeting was held quite far from earth; "It's time again for another birth,
Said the angels to the Lord above; "This special child will need much love,
His progress may be very slow. Accomplishments he may not show.
And he'll require extra care,  from the folks he meets down there.
He may not run, or laugh or play. His thoughts may seem quite far away.
In many ways he won't adapt - and he'll be known as handicapped.
So let's be careful where he's sent, We want his life to be content.

Please Lord find the person who, will do this special job for you.
They may not realise straight away, the learning role they're asked to play,
But with this child sent from above, comes stronger faith and richer love,
And soon they'll know the privilege given.
Their precious child so meek and mild

          is  HEAVEN'S VERY SPECIAL CHILD.

Many thanks to caring parents Sean and Bernadette Ballantyne for sending us this lovely poem.

Just a few short lines about our family and our connection to the society. Bernie and I  live in the Sacred Heart Parish in Stopsley ,Luton. We have two sons, Liam who is fourteen and Patrick who is eleven.
Our son Liam is Autistic. He has severe learning difficulties and a medical condition which has seen him spend some time in Guys Hospital. He is now on medication to control his illness.
We first met Fr. Kevin about ten years ago at a time when taking Liam to mass was hard work.We were introduced to the monthly Special Needs Mass, a place we felt very comfortable to take Liam.
Liam has made his First Communion and Confirmation through the group.
Fr. Kevin approached us about four years ago to join the Society as trustees. I suppose our experience as parents of Liam is where we can help most.

We'd love to have your contributions also. Send them to : Readers Page
