| Thought: |
‘I will
lift up my eyes unto the hills….my help comes from the Lord.’ |
Reflection:
Sometimes a beautiful sunset, a
rainbow, a pattern in the clouds in
the sky or a view from a hill top
can touch us and inspire a sense of
awe and wonder at God’s creation. On
Tuesday of this week there will be a
full moon and with a clear evening
it can be seen in all its majesty;
peacefully orbiting our planet. |

The following
words are from Colonel James R.
Irwin who was a member of the Apollo
15 lunar mission.
"Others may describe the moon as
barren and desolate, and technically
they are correct – there is no water
or air, no sound of life. But,
although a dead world, it can be a
beautiful one to anyone who loves
the mountains of the earth as I do.
When I first climbed down the ladder
of Apollo 15’s lunar module, I was
taken aback that the
mountains…seemed so close and so
tall…
But the real surprise was that the
mountains, at first sight, were not
grey or brown as I had expected.
They were golden…. |
|
It seemed like a
friendly place, which surprised me.
Here Dave Scott and I were on the
moon, strangers in a strange
environment, and you would have
thought we would have been a little
lost. But no, I felt that I was
where I should be… |
|
Each night, when
we bedded down in the lunar module,
I would lie awake a few minutes and
reflect on the beauty of what I had
seen and try and etch in my mind a
lasting impression of the majesty of
those mountains… |
|
Running through
my reflections like the refrain of
an old hymn were the words…from
Psalm 121 – ‘I will lift up mine
eyes unto the hills, from whence
cometh my help. My help cometh from
the Lord.’" (Col. James R. Irwin
‘Apollo 15: Three Views of the Moon.
